Client: Global NEST

The client

Global NEST is an international network of environmental scientists. It publishes two open-access journals, the Global NEST Journal and, since 2026, Micropollutants and Emerging Contaminants (JMEC), and runs CEST, the International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology, held every two years since 1989.

The brief

The journal’s previous site ran on Drupal 7, which reached end of life in January 2025. Global NEST needed a supported platform that would carry its back catalogue across and run the whole editorial process online, for more than one journal and for the conference proceedings too.

What we built

  • One Drupal 11 platform for both journals and the CEST conference series.
  • The editorial workflow: submission, reviewer matching, peer review, plagiarism checks and editorial decisions.
  • Persistent identifiers: Crossref DOI deposit for published papers, and feeds for indexing services.
  • Search across titles, authors, abstracts and DOIs.
  • The back catalogue, migrated from Drupal 7: the Global NEST Journal alone lists more than 2,200 articles.

Today

The platform is live at cosmos.gnest.org. We still run it: security updates, new features as the journals grow, and a support desk for the editorial office.
